The question does social media affect SEO has been ask for a few years now, so I decided to do some testing myself to see if it does.
Here is what I did. I monitored my traffic and impressions on google console for several weeks and noted the results. I noticed that everything was just status quo for those few weeks. I monitored this for about 2 to 3 weeks and no drastic changes.
I then started re-posting some of my older blogs that I wrote onto Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn for he next 2 weeks. After the 2 weeks weeks were up I checked the same traffic and impressions on Google console once again and this is what I found.
Traffic went up as did the impressions and so did the various NEW search terms. Lots of terms relating to the blogs are no showing up in the results and gaining traffic and impressions. I was thinking this was just a coincidence. So I said to myself let me try this with one of my cleints.
My clients traffic and impressions have been pretty steady for a month or so. I then scheduled out some of their older blogs to go out on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn as well for a 2 week period. I let that settle then checked the traffic and impressions and BAMM!!! I noticed an increase as well and newer keywords popping up that related to the blogs.
After about 3 weeks after I initially posted my blogs to social media all that increase in traffic and impression had died down some what, so I decided to try it again. I scheduled out some of my older blogs for the next 2 weeks and I got the same results an increase with newer terms showing up.
This has now been a steady practice of mine to re-post some of mine and my clients older blogs, changing the social descriptions and hashtags and it has done wonders for traffic and rankings.
